The court has set the next hearing for January 29. While Fernandez is a co-accused in the ED's case, she has been named as a witness in the extortion case initially filed by Delhi Police's economic offences wing. The ED's FIR originated from the Delhi Police's case against Chandrashekhar for cheating and extorting money.

In her plea, Fernandez argues that the evidence presented by the ED supports her innocence and portrays her as a victim of Chandrashekhar's targeted attack. She emphasizes that there is no indication of her involvement in aiding the alleged money laundering activities. The actress further points out that she was presented as a prosecution witness in the economic offences wing case. Fernandez contends that throughout her interactions with Chandrashekhar, he consistently portrayed himself as a free individual, leaving her unaware of his actual incarceration status. The plea aims to quash the ECIR (FIR) dated August 8, 2021, the second supplementary complaint dated August 17, 2022, and related proceedings.

The ED's involvement in the case stems from the Delhi Police's economic offences wing filing an extortion case in August last year against Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The charges involved cheating and extorting money from Aditi Singh, the wife of former Religare Enterprises promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh. The court's notice to the ED initiates a legal process that will unfold in subsequent hearings, providing an opportunity for Jacqueline Fernandez to present her case and challenge the ED's charges in the money laundering investigation.
