IAF and Navy Respond to Tamil Nadu Rains

 In the wake of heavy rainfall wreaking havoc in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force and Navy have launched extensive relief and rescue operations to aid those affected. Stranded individuals in various parts of south Tamil Nadu have been successfully rescued, with Indian Navy personnel actively distributing food and relief materials in flood-hit regions such as Madurai and Tuticorin.

Assurances from the office of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday emphasized the Central Government's commitment to providing all necessary assistance to Tamil Nadu amidst the relentless rains. The Defence Minister's office released a statement confirming the ongoing efforts of IAF helicopters engaged in rescue and relief operations across the flood-affected areas of the state.

A state government release highlighted the collaboration between state administration and relief operations, stating, "Relief operation is continuing. Loading of food packets and other relief material provided by the state administration on India Coast Guard ALH at first light at Madurai airport on December 20, 2023."

The Indian Army played a crucial role in rescuing three passengers trapped in a car in the flood-affected Kurukattur area of Thoothukudi district.

Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin's Alanthalai faced severe flooding, with houses submerged and streets waterlogged due to the persistent heavy rain. Officials reported record rainfall and flooding in southern districts, particularly Tirunelveli and Tuticorin.

In response to the challenging situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a light rain warning for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next six days. The release stated, "Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at one or two places in Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal area from December 21 to 26, 2023." As the relief operations continue, the nation remains focused on providing support to the affected regions in their time of need.
