1. National Level Technical Symposiums

RCET hosted several symposiums across departments, providing students a platform to showcase their technical prowess:

  • MEXTREME 2K24 (Mechanical Engineering): Held on November 22, 2024, this event featured Shri. Jegesh David, Group Director of IPRC, Mahendragiri, as the chief guest. With 101 participants from various institutions, the event reflected RCET’s commitment to academic collaboration.
  • DIGITAL DYNAMICS 2024 (AI & Data Science): Conducted on November 12, 2024, this symposium fostered dynamic development in AI and Data Science, inaugurated by the honorable Chairman Shri. Neela Marthandan.
  • TECHTONIX 2024 (CSE): This event on November 8, 2024, showcased cutting-edge advancements in computer science.
  • ZYNIX’24 by the CSE Department: Over 500 participants joined the symposium, which included paper presentations and cultural events.
  • ELECYUVA-2K24 by the EEE Department: Focused on recent trends in electrical technologies, this event attracted industry experts and students from across Tamil Nadu.
  • RONIX2K24 by the ECE Department: Explored cutting-edge advancements in electronics and communication.

2. Workshops

RCET’s Department of Management Studies organized various workshops to equip students with industry-relevant skills:

  • Future Scope for Logistics Management (November 19, 2024): Led by Mr. Baiju P. from the Merchant Navy, this session shed light on logistics management’s evolving landscape.
  • Communication Skill Development (November 12, 2024): Dr. S. Sankarrajan conducted an engaging session on enhancing communication abilities.
  • Mock Stock Market Operations (November 14, 2024): This hands-on workshop provided students with a glimpse into the stock market’s workings.
  • Android App Development: RCET provided students with opportunities for skill enhancement through workshops on Android App Development, mushroom cultivation, and more, ensuring practical learning beyond the classroom.
  • Machine Learning Workshop: The ECE department hosted this workshop on April 8–9, 2024.
  • SAHAR 2024: Organized by the Science and Humanities Association, this event encouraged innovation and creativity. It also featured the G20 Mega Beach Cleanup Drive, reflecting RCET’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

3. Industrial Visits for Practical Exposure

As the best engineering college in Kanyakumari district, RCET emphasizes practical learning:

  • On 11th November 2024, the first-year students of the Department of Management Studies, accompanied by faculty Dr. S.T. Anand and Mrs. George Mary Aarthi, visited V.V.V. and Sons Edible Oils Limited (Idhayam) in Virudunagar as part of their industrial visit. The purpose of the visit was to understand the structure and operations of the factory.
  • The 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering students visited Cochin Shipyard to witness large-scale shipbuilding and repair operations. This educational visit provided the students with a deeper understanding of mechanical engineering principles in real-world settings.
  • The 3rd-year students also visited IREL (Indian Rare Earths Limited) in Aluva to explore the manufacturing processes involved in producing rare earth materials and their applications across industries.
  • From 4th to 7th October 2024, the 3rd-year CSE students visited Kaynes Technologies in Mysore to explore the technology and tools used in the industry and gain insights into industrial practices.
  • The 2nd-year CSE students visited Spectrum Softtech Solutions in Kochi from 3rd to 6th October 2024. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the technology and tools employed in the industry and understand industrial practices.
  • From 15th to 21st February 2024, the final-year CSE students went on an industrial visit to Dandeli, Gokarna, and Goa, organized by Xenotronix. This visit allowed them to explore industry technologies and practices.
  • On 23rd February 2024, 57 students from the 3rd-year CSE department, along with 2 faculty members, visited AK Info Park in Parvathipuram, near Nagercoil. They attended a session on the company’s software development process, recent technologies, OS in usage, and project management workflow.
  • On 15th June 2024, first-year Civil Engineering students visited Mambalathuraiyaru Dam and Mathur Aqueduct. This visit provided them with insights into civil engineering marvels and water management infrastructure.
  • On 18th June 2024, first-year EEE students embarked on an educational tour to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Museum, Space Research Museum, Veli Tourist Village, Lulu Mall, and Kovalam Beach. The visit aimed to offer both academic insights into space research and recreational experiences.
  • On 13th June 2024, 97 students from the ECE and AI departments visited C-DAC Technopark and the ISRO Space Museum in Tiruvananthapuram. The purpose of the visit was to gain an in-depth understanding of advanced software technologies and space research.
  • On 20th and 22nd May 2024, the B-Tech Biomedical Engineering students visited Vivek Laboratories in Nagercoil in two batches. The visit allowed them to observe the practical applications of their theoretical knowledge in blood collection, centrifugation, and analysis.

· RCET celebrated the NBA accreditation of its programs in Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering for 2024–2027. This recognition reaffirms its position as one of the top engineering colleges in Kanyakumari.

· Events like Saraswati Pooja enriched the cultural fabric of RCET, fostering a sense of community and continuity among students and graduates.

· In collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council, RCET organized National Science Day 2024 to ignite scientific curiosity among students. Competitions and interactive sessions created a vibrant atmosphere for knowledge sharing.

· The Onam, celebrated on 12th Sept 2024 was a vibrant and joyous event that successfully brought together to honour and celebrates the traditional festival of Onam. Each department individually celebrated Onam by creating atha poo kolams and conducting competitions.

· On 12th January 2024, RCET celebrated Pongal at the campus with faculty and students dressed in traditional attire. The celebration, full of enthusiasm, featured the swinging of Pongal from the pot, highlighting the unity and spirit of the participants.

· Leewon Precision Pvt Ltd, Chennai: Selected 30 students, including 28 from Mechanical Engineering and 2 from EEE, during a drive on September 20, 2024.

· Ashok Leyland: Conducted a recruitment drive on September 23, 2024, hiring 13 students — 10 from Mechanical Engineering and 3 from EEE.

· TAFE: Recruited 6 final-year students (3 Mechanical, 3 Agricultural Engineering) on September 30, 2024.

· Prime Meridian Surveys Pvt Ltd, Chennai: Hired 15 Civil Engineering students on October 3, 2024.

· RANE (Madras) Ltd, Chennai: Conducted a drive on October 4, 2024, recruiting 30 students, including 22 from Mechanical and 8 from EEE.

7. Alumni Interactions

• The Civil Engineering Department, RCET, conducted its Alumni Meet on 27.10.2024 to revisit, network, and share moments of their time in college spent acquiring knowledge about the field of civil engineering.

• The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, RCET, organized its Alumni Meet on 27.10.2024, a perfect chance for the alumni to get back together, network, and celebrate their experiences in electrical and electronics engineering.

• The CSE Department, RCET, conducted an Alumni Meet 2024 on 27.10.2024 to allow alumni to show up, network, and celebrate with their experiences in computer science and engineering.

Guest Lectures

• A guest lecture was organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, RCET, on 26th October 2024. The guest of honour was Dr. Murugan M., Professor & HOD, Dean of the Faculty of Technology at NICHE. He delivered a talk on “Artificial Organ Implantation.” It discussed the role of biomedical engineers in artificial organs and how information will help in solving the problems in health care. Students presented their research articles in the end.

• On November 8, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Engineering, RCET conducted a guest lecture on Agroforestry in association with the Division of Genetics and Tree Improvement. The session enlightened students about agroforestry crops, the IFS system, and sustainable land use techniques.

• The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a Guest Lecture Program, an intra-college event, SPECTRA 2024, on the theme “Electrical Engineering in Home Appliances,” on 11th September 2024. The function intends to enable organizations to arrive at proper business decisions from huge amounts of data for certain patterns, trends, and insights.

• The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on Wind Energy on 1st April 2024. The guest lecture was scheduled at 11:30 AM in the Arena Auditorium. The guest speaker for the day was Dr. Karunamoorthy Neethimani, Wind Energy Expert, IIM Kozhikode. Dr. Neethimani is an expert in this field and shared valuable inputs about the future of wind energy.

• On 14th February 2024, the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a one-day Guest Lecture on Recent Trends in Automobiles. The Guest of Honour, Dr Arun Srinivasan, a Senior Scientist with National Aerospace CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories gave insights into what is most updated in the automobile fields.

Social Initiatives at RCET

• Soil Awareness Camp: Organized by the Department of Agricultural Engineering in collaboration with the Govt. of TN Soil Testing Laboratory, aimed to educate students on soil fertility and sustainable land use through expert-led demonstrations.

• National Immunization Day Medical Camp: A health camp was conducted at RCET by biomedical students. The services included blood pressure, oxygen level monitoring, blood grouping, etc. This camp was very much useful for the students as well as faculty members regarding the safety measures of using a mask and sanitization.

• World Cancer Day Awareness: An online session was conducted by the Institution’s Innovation Council on 4th February 2024 to create awareness on cancer. The session was well-received, which included presentations from students in a very interactive way.

• International Yoga Day — 2023: In NSS Unit, it is scheduled on 21st June, 2023 — “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. Students participated in a yoga demonstration to facilitate health, mental, and spiritual well-being.

• Medical Camp in Rural Areas: A medical camp was conducted in rural areas on March 20, 2024, to provide essential healthcare services to the underserved communities. The camp offered free health check-ups, including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar level testing, and basic medical consultations to improve health awareness and support rural populations.
