To commemorate the day, Stalin shared a video of his address at the DMK general council meeting on August 28, 2018, when he was unanimously elected as party president, just weeks after the passing of his father and former president, M. Karunanidhi.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin praised his father’s role in guiding the party through critical moments. “The DMK president has been leading us in our mission to safeguard the soil, language, and honour of Tamil Nadu, following the path laid down by leaders Anna and Kalaignar. Under his leadership, we will ensure DMK’s return to power in 2026,” he said. Udhayanidhi also recalled Stalin’s relentless fieldwork and electoral strategies that resulted in successive victories, strengthening the belief that authoritarianism can be defeated.

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu also extended his wishes to Stalin on completing seven years as party president.

Stalin’s long journey within the DMK began when he was appointed secretary of the youth wing in 1982. He was elected to the Assembly in 1989, later serving as Chennai Mayor, deputy general secretary, treasurer, and deputy chief minister. In 2017, he was elevated to working president, formally becoming the DMK chief the following year. He has been serving as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu since 2021.
